What is a Community Land Trust?

A Community Land Trust (CLT) is a non-profit making body set up by local people to hold local assets such as land and buildings for the benefit of the community in perpetuity – that is for ever. All members of the community have the opportunity to join a CLT, and those members control what the CLT does.

Who is South Bank CLT working with?

We are working in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and Thirteen Housing Group.

What is the purpose of the CLT?

South Bank CLT has been set up initially to refurbish five street houses to rent to local people, which we have now successfully achieved.  We also operate an Eco Shop and cultivate an allotment. In the future, we may build new homes or provide other community facilities such as play areas, places to meet, etc.

Who supports South Bank CLT?

The CLT has received financial support from the CLT Network Cohesive Communities Fund, Homes England and Redcar and Cleveland Council.

Who Manages all of this?

The CLT is incorporated as a Community Interest Company (CIC) with a Board of 12 Directors who are mostly local people.  All CLT Members including the Board, work voluntarily.  Any surplus funds are used for community benefit.

What is the CLT doing?

With the help of key stakeholders, we purchased five street houses, refurbished and allocated them to local residents. Our Eco shop and Allotment projects continue and we need volunteers and fundraisng support. If you can help, please contact us.

Who is eligible for a CLT house?

Anyone who lives in South Bank Ward.  Please note that properties have now been refurbished and allocated.

How do I apply for a CLT house?

All properties have now been refurbished and allocated.
